EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY The Chimpanzee Sanctuary & Wildlife Conservation Trust (CSWCT) is a Wildlife Conservation, NGO whose mission is to “promote the understanding, appreciation, and conservation of chimpanzees and their habitats in particular and wildlife in general.” CSWCT seeks to recruit suitably qualified, experienced and competent professionals to fill the following posts:
1. Job Title: Accountant (1) SCOPE The Accountant is responsible for smooth operations of the account and accountability for resources of CSWCT.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Main duties
• Providing support to FAO in general book keeping and making entries into Pastel. • Managing petty cash and receipting all the organisations cash and cheques • Preparing prompt payment of routine company expenses. • Ensure monthly payroll is prepared on time, statutory and other deductions are made and paid to relevant authorities in time • Processing customer orders and dealing with their queries • Handling the company’s credit control, chasing debts and ensuring that all customers’ accounts are settled within Company’s term • Preparing monthly reports and monthly bank reconciliation statements
Qualification and experience • Diploma in Accounts, business studies or Financial Management from a recognized institution or CAT certificate. At least two years of experience in a busy institution preferably an NGO Knowledge The incumbent must be proficient knowledge in the following areas: computerized accounting programs (SAGE Pastel), generally accepted accounting principles, preparation of financial statements, and preparation of financial reports, payroll systems and reporting. A valid driving permit is an added advantage.
2. Job Title: Veterinarian/Sanctuary Manager (1)
SCOPE
The Veterinarian/Sanctuary Manager reports to the Operations Director and is responsible for welfare of the chimpanzees and day to day sanctuary administration.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Main duties
• To oversee the day-to-day operations of the sanctuary • To carry out veterinary program planning and implementation. • To ensure high standards of care for the chimpanzees on Ngamba Island. • Responsible for all resources and their management at Ngamba Island. The Resources include; facilities, equipment, the animals and staff. Qualification and experience • Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine. Master’s degree in Wildlife Conservation or Veterinary related field, such as, Wildlife Health, Zoological Medicine, Wildlife Management, Epidemiology and Public Health is an added advantage. • A minimum of one year’s experience of clinical wildlife and/or livestock Veterinary practice including working with non governmental organizations, and rural communities
3. Job Title: Animal Keepers/Care-givers (3)
Main Purpose of Role
To support the organisation fulfill her mission of caring for the welfare of orphaned chimpanzees while offering quality educational and visitor experience to the public. Main Duties
• Work in accordance with established work procedures and protocols to ensure welfare of chimpanzees all the time. • Prepare food and other requirements for the chimpanzees • Monitor the health and behaviour of the chimpanzees and report and record any changes in behaviour and health, including daily recording in individual chimpanzee books • Cleaning of holding facilities, food preparation area, visitor services areas and remove food debris from the cleared area where the chimpanzees are fed in the forested area • Hand-raise young chimpanzees as required • Provide educational interpretation talks to tourists and general public • Compilation of information for chimp stories, newsletters and other publications • Implement environmental management system procedures which include routine maintenance schedule among others Experience and Qualifications
Diploma/ undergraduate degree or equivalent • Excellent organisational and communication (multi-lingual) skills • At least two years experience of animal handling ( zoophobia is a disqualification)
4. Job Title: Information Officer (1) The Information Officer is responsible for managing all CSWCT information and readily availing it when need arises to support the organization operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• organising, classifying, maintaining and storing information, often using computer applications for access and retrieval; • Compiling information for the bi-annual newsletter and making sure it is ready within the appropriate period. • Producing monthly bulletins with any relevant news for the given month and sending copies of the same by email to partners. • providing information support to colleagues within the service, and to outside associates • Keeping an updated data base of visitor information through the year with reports submitted at the end of each month. • Marketing Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary at marketers forums, TV, Radio or writing press releases where need arises.
Experience and Qualifications
Diploma/ undergraduate degree in Education,Journalism or equivalent • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • Excellent interpersonal skills. • Strong negotiating skills. • Ability to present ideas in business friendly and user-friendly language • Exceptionally self-motivated and directed
