CSWCT’s mission is ‘To promote the understanding, appreciation and conservation of chimpanzees in particular and wildlife in general’ and to fulfill this; educational activities aimed at sensitizing the public about the plight of chimpanzees are always undertaken. This year CSWSCT participated in the annual Uganda Manufacturers’ Association ( UMA) trade show and embarked on creating awareness about the challenges affecting chimpanzee and great apes in general and encouraging the public to take up their responsibility of protecting wildlife and biodiversity in general. Our theme this year during this trade show was; “It’s every one’s responsibility to protect wildlife and biodiversity in general.” We received over 112 school groups and about 1500 people of all age groups. Amongst these school groups were, The Uganda School for the Deaf, whose children were so fascinated by the chimpanzees that they watched on screen from the Ngamba Island Documentary, as their teachers interpreted along side. We taught them about environmental conservation and chimpanzees as the teachers interpreted for them. The Uganda Manufacturer’s Association (UMA) is an association that gets manufacturer together, but also organizes an annual trade show to promote local and international entrepreneurs. This trade fair is always well attended with over 800,000 people coming each year. The trade show began on 6th October and ended on 12th October 2009.
